Taking the Leap with Alexis Murphy

A little bit ago I took a massive leap into the unknown. I left my apartment, stable job, and safety net behind to create my own unconventional path.

Taking the Leap is a new interview series where I will be featuring people who also took a leap in their life. Be it switching careers, moving cities, starting a business, etc. This will hopefully be a series that inspires others to take leaps!

This first week I interviewed Alexis Murphy. Read on to see what leap she took!

Who are you?

Im the muthafkn man. Haha I’m Alexis and I enjoy making myself and others laugh. I’m somewhere between an intro and extrovert so I love socializing but at the end of the day there’s no place like home. I’ve always had deep interests in Astrology & Astronomy so I live my life by the stars ✨

Where were you born? Where do you live now?

I was born in Brooklyn, NY. Now I live in Woodbury, CT and made ALOT of stops before landing here.

Did you to college? If so, what did you study?

Yep twice. First time around I was in Apparel Design but I let the sewing machines get the better of me and ended up switching my major to Fashion Buying & Merchandising. I have an Associates Degree for that one. Then a few years later I got really sick and as a result enrolled back in school to obtain a Bachelors in Holistic Nutrition. I also grabbed my aesthetics license along the way and that’s what I use today with the nutrition degree.

What is some of your favorite music?

Some of my favorites are the different and unusual but also the ones that really make you feel them down to the beams of your soul. A few favorites are Bjork, WuTang, Portishead, Serj Tankian, Maynard, Jonathon Peters (Last Dance Sound Factory Mix Tape is the shit. You need to dl it) and Carl Cox.

What was the leap you took?

I left a secure, well paying corporate job to follow my dream of owning and operating my own day spa.

How did you push past the fear of the unknown?

Having a solid support system has been everything to me. Also investing in myself has been a huge difference on my outlook. I read a lot of personal development and I love books about near death experiences, past lives and Ancient Civilizations. I’m a believer that the stars & God have our best interests in mind if we open ourselves to them and their guidance.

What happened after?

In the beginning I dealt with a lot of doubt and anxiety but the more I worked on changing my perspective the more everything started to fall into place. Once I stopped resisting the better business started to get and that’s when the fun started to kick in. When you’re passionate about something it really isn’t work at all, it’s a fkn blast!

What’s something you wish someone told you when you first started taking steps to take the leap?

Be smart with your money and invest where you can. Rainy days can be downpours if you don’t plan for them.

So what are you waiting for? Take your leap today!
